Welcome to the planlander

Hello planlanders,

Welcome to our new blog.

The goal of this blog is to be a repository of information for those looking to undertake a new residential and/or commercial design project. Not only will we be exploring planland's services and strategies, but we will provide in-depth investigations of new products, builders, and general trends in residential/commercial design.

If you have not heard of planland, we are a multi-disciplinary design company based in Sydney, Australia. Since establishment, we have provided expertise in the core areas of Residential Design, Interior Design, Project Management and Construction.

I'd like to give you a little bit of background on our origin story at planland.

I graduated from university with a bachelor degree in engineering and went to work with an amazing property developer and veteran project manager.  It was a rewarding position and I had no plans to leave it - but there are some parts of life that are hard to control.

The downturn in the economy hit our industry hard in 2008 and I was let go. This would have been a disaster if I had not built a business on the side to help supplement my income.

I started Newton Teale Consulting Pty Ltd (planland's parent company) in 2007 as I saw a need to assist property owners and developers in navigating the design/construction process, and an opportunity to utilise my experience to take the stress out of residential/commercial building projects.

Newton Teale Consulting Pty Ltd remained a side project as I accepted a role with an established commercial builder. The following 8 years (essentially running a consultancy company while working full time) allowed me to garner experience in many facets of construction and design.

During this time (around 2012) I conceived of planland, my goal was simple: share design strategies that have helped people in the past and provide beautiful & functional designs at a cost that the majority of property owners can afford.

Since that time, it has become remarkably easy to find online drafters, building designers, and interior designers that will work for peanuts — but what has gotten harder, is finding ethical advice and design solutions that have been properly assessed and are affordable.

Hopefully, this is where planland (and our brand new blog) fits in. Planland is now my full-time gig and we have been furiously developing our internal systems to better serve our clients.

Spend some time on our Services page to get a sense of what we can do to assist on your project.
